So here at the farmstead we are always trying to save the planet. Do excuse my grout! Glenn We have an old bathroom which is PERFECTLY serviceable. It is a shade of light pink that I would not have chosen and the taps were these plastic round things that not only were breaking (the plastic snapped on two) and the hot/cold screws that were keeping the whole thing together kept falling off and the tap started leaking as the seal needed replacing and you really feel every wasted drop of precious water when you do not rely on mains water but on your own rainwater collections. But also, they were getting harder for me to switch on with wet hands - I have heard this is an age thing.
When I was winge-ing about the sad state of my bathroom to a dear friend, she said to just not put up with it and renovate it. When I thought about this I just could not justify smashing those perfectly good tiles and adding them to land fill. It also helped when I remembered that my friend had just crippled herself in debt by buying a brand new, very big, far away from everything and everyone house. So I've reconciled myself to my bathroom, even though a cupboard door just fell off. Imagine my delight when Glenn The Beekeeper came home from a garage sale with very cheap, easy to turn on full set of taps from Harry with the great garden! We installed them all before the SBS movie on Friday night. Oh happy days! You got any nice tales of making do or finding a bargain that does not hurt our earth?
